Dale gets its first K9 unit

DALE, IN (WFIE) - The Dale Police Force has a new member to help keep their streets safer.

Officer Jason Haycox has been training for the past few days with his new partner Maya.

Maya is a dual purpose dog that can search for narcotics and can be used as a bite dog.

Haycox says having a K9 is like a dream come true. The town was able to find the dog at a much lower price than usual.

Haycox says Maya will be able to keep the town that much safer by doing the work of 10 officers.

Maya was trained by Christian Losiewski of Real World K9 in Washington.

Losiewski says Maya is one of the best females he's ever seen. He also says the fact that Maya is a dual purpose dog is really rare, making her one in less than 100 in the country.
