Hopkins Co. discussing ways to increase funding for central dispatch

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Hopkins County is discussing ways to increase funding for its central dispatch.

Currently, their central dispatch operates about $50,000 under budget.

There is a $0.32 tax on landline phone calls for the 911 budget. That is the lowest tax in the entire state.

One proposed solution is to raise the landline tax by $2 so it matches closely to what other neighboring counties charge.

Hopkins County hasn't raised the 911 tax rate since 1990.

Another option is to add a $25 to $35 911 service charge to all county property tax bills.

These ideas and others will be discussed at the next Public Safety Committee meeting on June 23.
