HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Hopkins County Farmers Market is getting a facelift.

The Women's Club of Madisonville is spear heading the beautification project.

So far, 17 new trees have been planted along the market pavilion, and there are plans for new signs and a water main and faucet to be installed to allow vendors to sell more produce.

Judges from America in Bloom, an organization that promotes community improvement and collaboration, were there to check out the work Thursday afternoon.

“Communities really have to pool their resources. To be an island unto yourself, you just can't get as far as if you'll just come together all on the same project,” said Dana Brown, Executive Director for Hopkins Co. Fairgrounds. “It's just amazing what we've been able to accomplish. There's at least 15 different organizations that are making this project happen.”

These improvements are completely funded by community donations.
