Tuesday marks 25 year anniversary of record tornado outbreak

PETERSBURG, IN (WFIE) -

Tuesday marks 25 years since a record 37 tornadoes ripped across Indiana.

The Hoosier state was at the epicenter of this outbreak that impacted nine states with a total of 65 tornadoes.

The outbreak claimed nine lives nationwide, eight of which were in Indiana.

The town of Petersburg was hardest hit in Indiana, where six people died and nearly half the town was destroyed.
