Second Honor Flight gets ready to depart from Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The experience of a lifetime for 70 of our nation's heroes is less than two days away.

The second Honor Flight out of Evansville takes off Saturday from Evansville Regional Airport.

Thursday night was the meet and greet.

Veterans and their guardians learned about the trip, what to expect and where they'll be going.

There will also be some surprises.

Carl Fuchs fought in World War II and the Korean War. He's excited about a lot of of things, and at the top of the list is seeing the war memorials.

Fuchs was told by his own dentist that his name is on one of the monuments.

"They found my name on, him and his wife found on there. Course I go to his dentistry all the time and I got it from him. He said you oughta go up there, you know, so here I am, getting ready to go," said Fuchs.

While this flight is full, it's not too late support these humble heroes.

You can come to Evansville Regional Saturday night by 8:30 for "Operation Homecoming."

Bring signs, flags and friends to welcome the veterans home.

And stay with 14 News through Sunday for more exclusive coverage of the Honor Fight.

Jessica Schmidt will be the only reporter on this Honor Flight - just as she was on the very first flight out of Evansville.

We'll also bring you updates on social media.
