Veterans honored in service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

People across the Tri-State turned out at Memorial Day services to honor veterans who've died.

More than 100 people including Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke attended this service at Oak Hill Cemetery.

A wreath was placed in remembrance, and a bell - rung - for each veteran buried in the cemetery in the past year.

Mary Susan Hansen is the daughter of a veteran and was glad to see the public support at Monday's event.

"People feel that people have forgotten, and to come here and see all the people that are participating, it's a wonderful great thing, and I'm so honored to be here and to be a part of it,” said Hansen.

Flags were also placed at the graves of the fallen soldiers in the cemetery.
