Dawson Springs in search of new police officer

DAWSON SPRINGS, KY (WFIE) -

Dawson Springs is in search of a new police officer to help lighten the workload of the town's small police force.

The town council say the additional salary will still be cheaper than the department's current overtime costs.

There are currently four police officers in the department, but with one on vacation and another in the police academy, there are only two cops taking turns on 12 hour shifts.

Police Chief Jonathon Sholar is currently working 72 hours a week.

He expects the addition of the new officer after the yearly budget comes out in July.
