Renovation work begins on historic church in Henderson

HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) -

After part of its roof collapsed, a 100-year-old church in Henderson is getting a nearly $2 million renovation.

Last summer, a seven foot diameter area of plaster fell at First United Methodist Church during Children's Music Camp.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Since January, they've raised over $1.5 million by way of a capital fund campaign.

The pastor tells us he's thankful construction was able to begin earlier than expected.

"They asked when we wanted to get started,” said Senior Pastor Jim Wofford. “We told them June and they said they can't do June because they're booked from June through Christmas. They said, instead, we can come right now."

They expect construction to be completed by November.
