USI’s Dorsam earns academic honor

ST. LOUIS, MO (WFIE) -

University of Southern Indiana senior second baseman MacKenzi Dorsam (Dubois, Indiana) has been named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV team for softball in a vote by the Midwest Region's sports information directors.

Dorsam, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, led the conference during the regular season in batting average (.461), slugging percentage (.879), on-base percentage (.556), runs scored (47), hits per game (1.48), total bases (124), and RBIs per game (1.14).

A third-team All-American as a utility player a year ago, Dorsam also was second in the league this year in RBIs (50), runs scored per game (1.07), walks (27), walks per game (0.61), and plate appearances per game (3.89). She ended the regular-season ranked third in the league in hits (65) and fourth in home runs (15).

Dorsam is just one home run shy of Rachel Bowling's single-season school record of 16, set in 2002, and four RBIs shy of Sara Loete's single-season RBI record of 54, set in 2008.

A health services major at USI, Dorsam has compiled a 3.65 grade point average during her career at USI. She is a three-time Academic All-GLVC honoree and was recently named the Old National Bank/USI Female Student Athlete of the Year.

With the Academic All-District accolade, Dorsam will be under consideration for Academic All-America honors.
