Rockport residents have to fix sewer system problems

ROCKPORT, IN (WFIE) -

Some Rockport residents are learning they'll have to make repairs to the sewer lines that connect their house to the city's system.

The city performed a smoke test last summer to see where ground water was getting into the system.

Officials tell us that's a violation with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Residents throughout the city are now receiving letters notifying them of that and that they are also violating a city ordinance.

We're told if they don't make the repairs, they'll be removed from the system.

Some residents got the letter saying their downspout is connected to the system. Although they told us, it doesn't.

There's no word from city officials of how many residents have to fix their sewer pipes. But, we're told they have 90 days after receiving the letter to make the repairs.
