Leadership Evansville class organizing fresh produce collection

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A produce project is growing in Evansville and we're told it is expected to sprout this summer.

Lori Tomlin is part of an Evansville leadership class. She says her class is organizing a fresh produce collection in the city.

If you have any extra fruits or vegetables from your garden, you can now donate them.

Tomlin says she is working with the school corporation to use the bus routes to collect the food.

"This community is very giving and when people have ways to be able to achieve that or to be able to give back to others, a lot of people are enthused about getting involved,” said Tomlin. “We are just glad that we can get some fresh food out of the community and help people achieve their willingness to give to others and get it into the hands of the people who really need it.”

The Tri-State Food Bank will be receiving all of the donated produce.

If you would like to join the program, visit Leadership Evansville's website or Facebook page.
