Union Co. graduates receive new shoes through “Happy Feet” program

UNION CO., KY (WFIE) -

Talk about Happy Feet.

Tuesday in Evansville, more than 60 students from Union County got new shoes.

The 5th, 8th and 12th grade students will proudly wear them this year as they walk across the stage on graduation day.

The "Happy Feet Program" shuttled 65 kids from western Kentucky to Shoe Carnival Tuesday morning.

With smiles on their faces, they walked up and down the aisles with their friends, modeled and selected their new kicks.

"Everything about them changes when they put on a new pair of shoes,” says Melissa Cook. “A lot of them only get new shoes when Happy Feet provides them or when the Family Resource Center gives them shoes that may have been hand-me-downs. That's normally the only time that they get new shoes."

All shoes were purchased through the fundraising efforts of the Happy Feet Program.

This is the fourth year the group has provided shoes for Union County graduation.
