Hopkins Co. YMCA preparing for summer meal program

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Hopkins County YMCA is getting ready for its "Summer Feeding Program."

This is the 20th year they've held the program.

Right now, the "Y" is looking for sites to host it.

The program serves any child, 18 and younger, with three meals a day.

YMCA Finance Director Darlene Sheyer says there's a real need to serve meals to children in Hopkins County.

"Some of the kids, they just get up in the morning and they have nothing to eat until lunch,” Sheyer said. “Then they don't get to eat again until the next day, so a lot of these kids are sitting at their windows, waiting at their door, waiting for the vans to arrive, so they can come out and get a meal.”

Sheyer says last year they served over 2,400 children.

If you're interested in hosting a site for the program, contact the Hopkins County YMCA.
