EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville Police are investigating a dog attack on the city's north side.

It happened around 7:30 Monday morning in the 3700 block of Harvard Court.

The mother told 14 News that the children's grandmother was outside with her 1 and 5 year old as they were swinging.

That's when, she says, the dog came up and attacked her 5 year old.

The mother says the grandmother was holding her 1 year old during the attack and tried to help the oldest child.

The mom says she ran out and jumped on the dog to stop the attack.

One child was bitten on the face. The other was bitten on the hip.

Police say their mother was also bitten when she came out to try and help the kids.

All three are expected to be okay.

The dog's owner showed up at the scene and says he's from a nearby neighborhood.

The dog was picked up by animal control.
