Hopkins Co. Sheriff's Deputy involved in Sunday afternoon accident

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Madisonville Police Department is investigating an accident involving a Hopkins County Sheriff's Deputy.

It happened just after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Island Ford Road and the Pennyrile Parkway.

Authorities say Deputy Michael Evans was turning left from the Parkway ramp onto Island Ford Road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Carolyn Wittmer, of Madisonville.

Police say Deputy Evans was responding to an emergency call at the time and had his lights and siren on.

Officials say Wittmer said she heard the siren but her brakes did not work properly and she struck the patrol car.

No one was seriously hurt.

A passenger in Wittmer's vehicle complained of a possible neck injury.
