McLean Co. water project on hold

MCLEAN CO., KY (WFIE) - Plans to build a new water plant in Mclean County have hit yet another snag.

The County is working on building a new water plant in Calhoun, which would produce about 2 million gallons of water a day and pump it out to all 5 water districts in the county.

The project was recently put out for bid.

Judge Executive, Kelly Thurman, says all seven bids were about $2 million more than what the county anticipated.

Thurman says the county water commission is now trying to figure what to do next.

"We recognized going in that we might have this dilemma and it's not killing the project by any means, we're just going to have to go back to the drawing board so to speak and see what we can possibly amend, curtail, or cut out, perhaps," says Thurman.

The McLean County Water Commission will meet next Tuesday to discuss options to make sure the project keeps moving forward.
