GRADD hosting 'Stand Against Child Abuse' event Thursday

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

GRADD's Community Collaboration for Children and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services' Department for Community Based Services invites the public to help raise awareness by participating in ‘The Stand Against Child Abuse.'

It will be on Thursday, April 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the sidewalks in front of the former Texas Gas building in the 3800 block of Frederica Street in Owensboro.

Several activities for children are planned, including a bounce house, face painting, balloons, bubbles, and snow cones.

The annual event helps bring attention to an issue that, unfortunately, continues to plague our nation, state and local communities.

According to UNICEF, the United States ranks 25 among 27 developed nations based on the rate of child deaths from abuse/neglect. In 2014, DCBS received nearly 65,000 reports of abuse/neglect of minors across Kentucky, including 1,362 in Daviess County.

Citizens of all ages are invited to attend. There is no registration required to participate.
