BLOOMINGTON, IN (WFIE) - The Bloomington Police Department says it will investigate any similarities between the disappearance of Lauren Spierer and the murder of IU student, Hannah Wilson.

Wilson's body was found last Friday morning in Brown County after friends reported her missing.  The coroner says she had been hit about four times in the head.

Wilson was last seen getting into a taxi alone outside a bar in Bloomington after friends thought she was too intoxicated.

49-year-old Mark Messel of Bloomington was formally charged Monday with murder in connection with Wilson's death.  He's being held without bond.

A probable cause affidavit says investigators found blood in Messel's car and his cell phone next to Wilson's body.

Bloomington Police say they're getting questions from the media and hearing speculation about a possible connection between Wilson's murder and the disappearance of Lauren Spierer.

Spierer vanished in June 2011 after a night of partying with friends in downtown Bloomington.

Bloomington Police say, "Messel's arrest has provided BPD detectives with an avenue of investigation into Lauren Spierer's disappearance that will be diligently pursue and, in fact, that investigation has already begun."

Police also say that they will talk with Indiana State Police detectives to determine what, if any, similarities may exist between the two cases.
