Dale Police getting K9 officer

DALE, IN (WFIE) -

The Dale Police Department is getting a new K9 officer at a fraction of the cost.

Deputy Town Marshal Jason Haycox says he's been researching for the past five months to figure out how to get a K9.

He says he was notified on Facebook of an up-coming trainer that would provide a dog for less than $2,000. The normal cost is around $10,000.

The K9 will be coming from Washington State sometime in late June.

The dog will be used for drug searching and tracking.
