Land-based gaming legislation clears another hurdle

INDIANAPOLIS (WFIE) -

Legislation that would allow Indiana's riverboat casinos to move on land is now headed to the full Senate.

The bill passed out of the appropriations committee on Thursday.

The general manager of Evansville's Tropicana casino says they're happy that the bill will allow the city to vacate a street downtown where a new land-based casino would be built.

But, Jason Gergorec says they aren't happy that the current bill caps gaming positions and that capital investment opportunities, which would have allowed venues to receive a credit on the money spent to build land-based casinos, have been removed.

If the law is changed and Tropicana is able to move to inland, it would free up space for the LST to move to a more visible location downtown.
