Baptist Health colon cancer screening day

MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) - March is colon cancer awareness month and Baptist Health will hold its annual screening day on this last day of the month.

The hospital wants to help bring awareness to one of the most common cancers diagnosed in the state of Kentucky and in the country as a whole.

The screening day event will discuss ways to help prevent colon cancer and ways to detect the disease early.

"Bring awareness to the community and the importance of screening and early detection," said oncology services director, Diana Jackson. "If you find colon cancer early it's curable. It's much more treatable. If you wait to later stages where we often see colon cancer it's often too late."

The interactive event starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. No appointments are necessary.

There will be a 12 foot high inflatable colon that people can walk through and see examples of colon cancer up close and personal.

At home early detection kits will also be provided for anyone who wants them.
