Court agrees to third mental evaluation for fatal fire suspect

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - There will be a third mental evaluation for an Evansville man accused of setting a deadly fire.

Christopher Compton appeared in court on Monday.

The 32-year-old Compton is charged with murder and arson in the Franklin Street fire that killed 3 people last March.

Compton has already been evaluated twice and doctors have said he is fit to stand trial.

A judge agreed to allow a third evaluation by a neuropsychologist who is being brought in by Compton's attorneys.

The prosecution strongly objected to another mental evaluation for Compton. His trial was set to begin Monday.

Compton's next court date is April 13.
