EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - When it comes to hosting top notch college basketball tournaments, Evansville has a long and rich history.
From 1957 through 1976, Evansville and Roberts Stadium played host to what was then the NCAA College Division National Finals. What a tournament it was.
Well, after a 25 year absence, that great tournament of quality basketball returned to Evansville as the city hosted what is now known as the NCAA men's basketball elite eight tournament, a tournament that saw Central Missouri State defeat West Liberty for the 2014 national championship. It was truly a great Event.
This week, Evansville and the Tri-State have another tremendous opportunity to showcase just how wonderful this community is, as the NCAA elite eight national finals return to the fabulous Ford Center for a second year in a row.
Hosting the elite eight is a big deal. It's not just great hoops played before a nationwide television audience, but is a terrific economic boost to our city, and to our national profile.
