Heavy trash pick-up begins in Evansville on March 30

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Heavy trash pick-up will begin on Monday, March 30 in Evansville and will run through Friday, May 30.

People who live in the city, and pay for trash service with their water bill, are eligible to take advantage of this service.  

Apartment complexes, mobile home communities and business/commercial customers are not eligible.

Put your heavy trash on the curb where you normally put your garbage for weekly pick up.

It must be placed in manageable, organized piles before 6 am on the first day collection is scheduled in your area.

Items that will be collected include:

  • Carpet
    •  Must be rolled in sections no longer than 4 ft. and no wider than 2 ft. in diameter
  • Furniture
    • Sofas, tables, chairs, mattresses, box springs, etc.
  • Appliances
    • Stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, water heaters, etc.
    • Limit two of each type of appliance per household
  • Electronics
    • Television, stereos, etc.
    • NO computers or accessories
  • Building materials/construction debris
    • Must be in trash cans, boxes, etc. of such size and weight that they can be reasonably lifted by two average adults
    • Containers must be strong enough that they do not break apart while being lifted even if they are wet
    • Privacy fence sections must be cut in half or smaller, manageable size
    • NO concrete blocks, bricks or steel poles

Items that will NOT be collected include:

  • Any trash that Republic Services would pick up as part of its regular residential waste collection contract
  • Automobile parts
  • Batteries
  • Tires
  • Hazardous materials
  • Computers or accessories
  • Concrete blocks, bricks or steel poles

Heavy trash that does not meet these requirements will not be picked up.


If you place your heavy trash out according to the requirements, but feel like your pick up has been missed, call Republic Services at (812) 424-3345 within two days to report a possible missed pick-up.

    We have an update on a deadly fire in Ohio County.  Another child has died as a result of the mobile home fire that happened earlier this month.  Christin Henry posted the sad news on Facebook late Sunday. Ireland was seven-years-old. Her brother, four-year-old brother John-Ross Henry, died at the hospital two weeks ago.  Two-year-old Ivy Henry was found dead inside the home the day of the fire.     For a week now, crews have been putting up rides, tents, and stages at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Center for the annual county fair. Officials say that preparations for this year's fair began immediately following the 2017 fair, but today was all about putting the finishing touches on the week-long event.
