Dubois Co. woman donates kidney to Boston man

After she agreed to help one stranger in Tennessee, Cheryl Welp gave one of her kidneys to another stranger from Boston.

And she says she's gained a brother in the process.

The Dubois County resident says as a nurse, she's tried to live by the motto ‘You may be one person to the world, but to one person you may be the world.'

She says she had agreed to donate a kidney to a Tennessee woman, but when she got better, she was connected with Chris Johnson in Boston.

After being told they were a match, Welp and her husband flew to Boston and gave one of her kidneys to Johnson.

She says the past few weeks have been a little overwhelming, but when she got a gift from Johnson's family, she knew it was worth it.

“I never dreamed that I would be so loved and cared about by this totally beautiful group of people who accepted not only me, but my whole family into their life,” said Welp.
