NEW YORK (NBC) -

A Virginia photographer, who is a veteran, probably didn't bargain for the publicity she's been getting after posting a picture of a baby cradled in an American flag on her Facebook page.

The photo is of her friend, also a Navy veteran, holding her newborn child.

Vanessa Hicks says she's being harassed by fans of another Facebook page, 'You Call Yourself a Photographer?', which suggests she was disrespecting the flag by taking the photo.

In a follow-up post, Hicks says that she's very aware of U.S. Flag Code and explains why she didn't remove the photo, "I stood up for the picture. To me, that is what being an American is all about."
