EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The Kunkel Group got approval on Wednesday to make changes to a property involved in a lawsuit with the city of Evansville.
The Evansville Redevelopment Commission approved the addition of first-floor windows and doors and a single-car garage to Meridian Plaza, at Main and Third Streets.
Ben Kunkel says they need to get Meridian Plaza developed and rented to fully pay back a city loan for half-a-million dollars.
Kunkel says they also can't move forward with the McCurdy renovations until the lawsuit is cleared up. He says that would require more cooperation from the city.
Department of Metropolitan Director Kelley Coures disagrees.
"I don't know that I would say that that is the single thing that's keeping him from doing the McCurdy," said Coures. "It may be part of it, but it's something that he did himself, so it's not the city's fault that he's in default on that loan."
There's no timeline for when construction on the newly-approved additions will be completed.
