Postal office asks residents to make clear path for mailmen

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The postal office is asking the Tri-state to help out their letter carrier this winter season, just by simply shoveling.

With the snow pile up, it can a delay in mail deliveries, especially if there isn't a clear path for them to walk.

Customers are being asked to clear their mailbox area of snow, sleet, ice, and debris.

This includes the pathway to their mailbox.

Tim Sartore, a letter carrier, said messy roads and sidewalks can really slow him down.

"It takes quite a considerably longer. It's like marching all day, up and down, picking your feet up through the snow, and trying to get the job done," Sartore said.

The postal office said if the mailbox is hard to reach, letter carriers can choose to not deliver a person's mail if it's dangerous.
