MOBILE, AL (WFIE) - The University of Evansville Softball team came up short in a 3-1 loss to Butler on Friday morning. This is the first game for the Aces in the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational. The loss drops the Aces to a 1-5 record overall.
Butler jumped to a two-run lead in the bottom of the second. Cassie Rupel started the scoring effort with a single to right center. With a runner on first Riley Carter came up to the plate and belted a two-run home run to give the Bulldogs the edge early.
In the top of the fifth, after reaching base on a single, Abbi Fahse was on second when Mariah Ferguson came through with a double to score Fahse making the deficit 2-1. The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the sixth though with a one of their own when Alex Kotter hit a solo home run to seal it for the Bulldogs.
The Aces are back in action tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. when they take on Lipscomb and again at 1:30 p.m. when they take on Oklahoma State. They will wrap things up at 12:15 p.m. when they take on the host South Alabama.
