Aces softball falls to Butler

MOBILE, AL (WFIE) -

The University of Evansville Softball team came up short in a 3-1 loss to Butler on Friday morning. This is the first game for the Aces in the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational. The loss drops the Aces to a 1-5 record overall.

Butler jumped to a two-run lead in the bottom of the second. Cassie Rupel started the scoring effort with a single to right center. With a runner on first Riley Carter came up to the plate and belted a two-run home run to give the Bulldogs the edge early.

In the top of the fifth, after reaching base on a single, Abbi Fahse was on second when Mariah Ferguson came through with a double to score Fahse making the deficit 2-1. The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the sixth though with a one of their own when Alex Kotter hit a solo home run to seal it for the Bulldogs.

The Aces are back in action tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. when they take on Lipscomb and again at 1:30 p.m. when they take on Oklahoma State. They will wrap things up at 12:15 p.m. when they take on the host South Alabama.

Blake Pieroni was named Big Ten Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the fifth time this season, while Jessica Parratto was named Big Ten Women’s Diver of the Week for the third time.

    The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team could not stay on track and fell to top-ranked Bellarmine University, 78-62, Monday evening in Louisville, Kentucky. USI saw its record fall to13-5 overall and 4-2 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine goes to 15-1, 6-1 GLVC.
