Holiday Inn Riverfront Hotel nears completion in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The Holiday Inn Owensboro Riverfront Hotel is now in its final phase of construction.

Hotel officials announced Monday they are getting closer to selecting a date for the grand opening of the hotel and Another Broken Egg Cafe.

In two months the construction equipment and yellow tape in the Holiday Inn's parking lot will be replaced by hotel guests' cars.

Lin Gate Hospitality officials say the new hotel and Another Broken Egg Cafe will open toward the last week of March.

The major construction is finished. Now crews are focusing on the final steps.

They're bringing in the furniture, and installing fixtures and smaller kitchen equipment.

The building will undergo a deep cleaning soon after that.

Many people in Owensboro say they are excited about the progress and look forward to the grand opening.

John Condray lives and owns a business in downtown Owensboro.

“We are really excited about the opening of another hotel downtown. Especially, they're going to have another restaurant, which is fantastic. It gives more rooms for people to stay in downtown and check out everything we have going on.”

Hotel officials say the winter was a major obstacle during the beginning stages of construction, but most of the lost time was made up in the spring.
