Indiana state police say three people from Illinois were killed when a car split in two after the driver lost control and struck a barrier wall on Interstate 80-94 in Gary and then a large support pole for an overhead sign.
State police have identified the victims as 21-year-old Shaquita Kendrick of Harvey, 20-year-old Timothy Riley of Chicago and 21-year-old William Burton of Calumet City.
State Trooper Carson House says the car was westbound when the crash occurred shortly after 3:35 a.m. Sunday. Police say Kendrick and Riley were pronounced dead at the scene, while Burton was pronounced dead at North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary. A third backseat passenger was hospitalized while the driver was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
