Ivy Tech Community College honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Students and employees at Ivy Tech Community College volunteered their time Saturday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

It is part of the school's fourth annual service week.

Volunteers made valentine cards for local nursing home residents, as well as treats for animals at the Vanderburgh County Humane Society.

Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel says the school offers a wide range of activities throughout the week as a way to honor Dr. King's legacy and get students involved in the community.

"We wanted to really do something that maybe is a little more lasting and I think probably more appropriate and fitting with his legacy of public service and treating others the way we would like to be treated and we think the best way to do that is through a week-long service week," said Jonathan Weinzapfel, Ivy Tech Chancellor.

Throughout the week, students completed projects for eleven organizations across the Tri-State including the YMCA and the Evansville African American Museum.
