UE unbeaten title team

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Aces 1964 National Championship team, that went 29-and-0 under head coach Arad McCutchan was honored Saturday at halftime at the Ford Center.

Earlier, members of the team, including the starting five, held a panel discussion moderated by Mike Blake at the Old National Events Plaza.

Larry Humes, and Basketball Hall of Famer, Jerry Sloan, were the stars of that college division team that beat teams such as Iowa, Northwestern and Notre Dame.. and beat the Salukis by 3 in the title game.

"There wasn't any animosity about who's playing, this and that. The biggest thing was that I think we tried to do what Coach McCutchan wanted us to do. We were playing for a great coach," said Jerry Sloan, Basketball Hall of Famer.

"Through a lot of hard work and togetherness, we were able to do it. So that's why the '65 team is so special," said Larry Humes, UE's 2nd All-Time Leading Scorer.

The Aces beat Southern Illinois 3 times that season by a total of 5 points.
