THRUSTON, KY (WFIE) - Former U.S. Senator Wendell Ford grew up in the small town of Thruston, east of Owensboro.
The ordinary people of rural Kentucky have enjoyed having someone just like him represent them in Frankfort and Washington D.C.
The Reid family has owned an orchid in Thruston for more than 100 years.
Billy Reid told 14NEWS Ford once worked for his grandfather.
"He was a Thruston boy and when he was off to DC he always said he's the boy from Thruston," said Billy. "He was a hometown boy that grew up and really enjoyed helping people from the state of Kentucky."
Ford's common man approach serves him well in a career spanning from 1965 to 1998. He never lost an election.
