Everyone is safe after a Good Samaritan helped rescue three elderly people from their car as it backed into a Sarasota, Florida lake on Tuesday.

Sarasota Police say the driver, 86-year-old Gil DiLoreto, was about to run errands with two friends Monday afternoon when he lost control of his Jeep Liberty and it backed into the lake.

One passenger, 77-year-old Darlene Miller, escaped out of her window, but DiLoreto and the other passenger, 82-year-old Pat Cothern, were trapped.

Thankfully, Cliff Wright, a nearby neighbor, heard the car revving outside and saw the car go into the water. Wright then jumped in and helped the three to safety, before the car became fully submerged.

"I looked around, no one else was there, so I figured I had to go ahead and do it. I took my phone, my shirt off, and jumped in," Wright said.
