Winter storm icing up central Indiana roadways

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A winter storm that's bringing a mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow to Indiana is beginning to ice up roads in the state's central counties.

The National Weather Service predicts a quarter-inch of ice will accumulate by Monday morning across more than a dozen counties along the Interstate 70 corridor.

As of sundown Sunday, roads and sidewalks were becoming slick across much of that area, which remains under an ice storm warning until 7 a.m. Monday.

The weather service says one-tenth of an inch of ice was reported in parts of Vermillion County in western Indiana by early Sunday evening as bands of freezing rain, sleet and snow were moving across the state.

After the storm pushes east of the state Monday, sharply colder air will send temperatures plummeting.
