RUSKIN, FL (WFLA/NBC) - Michelle Kerr thought her terrible relationship with John Jonchuck, the father of her 5-year-old daughter Phoebe, was on the mend when they all got together to exchange gifts on Christmas Eve.
"It was very civil," Kerr said. "We had a good time."
Early Thursday morning St. Petersburg police officers awakened Kerr with a knock on the door of her Ruskin home. Her daughter was dead, they said. Jonchuck had tossed her into Tampa Bay at midnight. They didn't know why.
"She would always say 'I love you' to him," Kerr said. "She loved her daddy."
Kerr said Phoebe lived with Jonchuck because she suffers from multiple sclerosis, can't walk, and would have struggled to care for her.
