Slick Indiana roads lead to spate of crashes

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana police agencies say falling temperatures have left some roads slick and treacherous, leading to slide-offs and other crashes across the northern two-thirds of the state.

The National Weather Service says snow showers along with rapidly falling temperatures Sunday caused previously wet roads to turn icy, especially on untreated roadways. It says strong winds also created reduced visibility due to blowing snow in parts of northern Indiana.

The slick conditions could be a prelude to much more serious wintry weather. The weather service has issued a winter storm watch Monday evening through Tuesday morning in northern Indiana. It says snow was expected to begin falling Monday evening, with accumulations of 3-6 inches likely by Tuesday morning. It says snowfall amounts of 5-8 inches are possible.
