EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Barricades have been put up around the historic Owen Block in downtown Evansville.
The row of townhouses is located at southeast 2nd Street and Chestnut.
Building Commissioner, Ben Miller, ordered that the fencing be put up after several bricks fell. He says it is an incredibly unsafe situation.
Miller says the roof of the building is giving way, there are holes in the floors and the chimneys are leaning.
Experts who examined the Owen Block last week said it was in horrible condition.
There is no demolition order at this time.
Miller says there will be a meeting with stakeholders in the coming weeks to see what, if anything, can be done.
Officials say the city is going to give Indiana Landmarks an opportunity to stabilize the building to see if it can be saved.
The Owen Block was built back in 1882.
