UE women finish non-conference schedule at #7 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

The University of Evansville women's basketball team (5-5) completes their non-conference schedule with a clash against #7 Louisville on Monday, Dec. 29. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.

This is the second time this season the Aces have faced off with a ranked team. #22 West Virginia topped UE 83-39 on Nov. 26.

The Aces four game winning streak came to an end in their last game, a 62-50 defeat at IUPUI on Dec. 21. Guard Kat Taylor scored a game-high 16 points off the bench. Guard Kenyia Johnson added nine points, three assists and three steals in the game.

Statistically, Evansville has three players scoring double figures with guard Sara Dickey (18.7 points per game), forward Mallory Ladd (16.4) and Taylor (13.0). Forward Sasha Robinson boasts a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game. Dickey leads the Aces with 31 assists. Guard Taloni Reese has 19 steals, highest on the team. UE is averaging 68.3 points and 33.6 rebounds per game. The Aces are making 41.6% of their field goals, 34.5% of threes, and 68.3% at the free throw line.

Louisville (11-1) is ranked 10th in both the Associated Press and Coach's Polls. The Cardinals have won three straight contests including a 70-57 victory in their last game against California on Dec. 21. Forward Sara Hammond scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

On the stat sheet, forward Mariya Moore (14.0), forward Myisha Hines-Allen (13.7), Hammond (11.8) and guard Bria Smith (11.0) each average double-figure points per game. Hammond also owns a team-best 6.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. Moore has the most assists of any Cardinal with 44. UL is scoring 83.0 points and securing 44.8 rebounds per game. The Cards shoot 47.5% from the floor, 37.3% on treys and 62.8% at the charity stripe.

Evansville is projected to finish fourth in the MVC preseason poll, their highest projection since 2008-2009. Dickey was also named to the preseason All-Conference team. The Aces are led by fourth year head coach Oties Epps.

Louisville is guided by eighth year head coach Jeff Walz. The Cardinals were projected third in the ACC preseason poll. Hammond was named to the preseason team.

UE is 3-10 all-time against Louisville. Evansville is 3-10 all-time against the Cardinals but the teams have not met since the 2002 season opener, an Aces 60-58 win.

The next home game for UE will be on January 8, 2015 with a 7:00 p.m. tip against Loyola of the Missouri Valley Conference.
