Community steps in after thief steals donations from Daviess Co., KY church

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) - Thieves nearly ruin a Christmas surprise at a Daviess County, Kentucky church.

Sheriff's deputies say someone broke into Freedom Baptist Church in Maceo last month and stole money that was being raised to buy bunk beds for a brother and sister.

The church was planning on surprising them with the gift around Christmas.

Pastor Carl Vanover says since word got out about the theft, members of the community have stepped up and donated $1,100.

"Before we knew it, this stone that was used to knock out the window was worth about 11-hundred dollars so it ended up what the devil intended for evil it turned out the lord wanted it for good," said Pastor Vanover.

Deputies say they have a person of interest in the case, but believe others may be involved after reading several Facebook posts.

If you have any information about the theft, contact the Daviess County, KY Sheriff's office and ask for Deputy Kelly Payne.
