Greenville company bringing carriage rides downtown

A Greenville company will be bringing back horse-drawn carriage rides to downtown Owensboro.

Its been a few years since people in downtown Owensboro have heard the sound of hooves hitting the pavement every week.

Just a few days ago, members of the Country Plantation House were on West Second Street mapping out a downtown route.

The Greenville, Kentucky company plans on offering horse-drawn carriage rides every Friday and Saturday. So far the plan is to have at least two carriages in the spring, summer, and fall. That number could change depending on the number of riders.

The new service is already starting to create a buzz downtown.

"We're Kentucky. Why wouldn't we have horses? I think it's great. It just gives it that old world charm that we need for our downtown. It's exactly where we are headed," said Maria Kelly, Nona's Downtown Market owner.

Country Plantation House staff say the first carriage rides will begin this Friday and Saturday. The price to ride hasn't been determined yet.
