4 hurt when shots ring out at N. Indiana hall

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Shootings at a northern Indiana banquet hall crowded with about 500 people have left four people injured.

St. Joseph County Police say the shootings occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday at The Oaks, a hall southeast of South Bend that's rented out for parties and special events.

Police say three people went to hospitals to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. A fourth shooting victim fled from an ambulance while being treated and wasn't found after a search of the area and of vehicles leaving the scene.

Lt. Matt Blank says an officer responding to reports of reckless driving in the area was ticketing a driver when he heard shots ring out. Blank says "everybody tried to flee the scene" before officers could secure the area.
