Cherry Street Mission serves up a Thanksgiving meal to those in need

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Cherry Street Mission works hard throughout the year to help those who need it most in the community and this Thanksgiving, with the help of some local restaurants, they were able to give thousands in the Toledo area a full thanksgiving meal.

This is the fourth year in a row that the Cherry Street mission has partnered with Main Street Ventures to give those who need it a hot meal on Thanksgiving.

Thursday, the restaurant staff at the Real Seafood Company was ready to serve up to 1,200 people. On the menu was turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, broccoli, salad and pumpkin pie.

Those in need of a meal where able to call in early, at the beginning of November, to either reserve a spot at the restaurant or request a cold or hot meal to be delivered to their home.

The owners of the Real Seafood Company approached the Cherry Street Mission to give back to the community and give those in need a good start to the holiday season.

“Four years ago, they contacted us and said they wanted to get involved and help out, and so, ever since then over the last four years, we've been doing this with them on Thanksgiving Day,” said Charles Allen from the Cherry Street Mission Ministries.

He says prior to Thanksgiving, nearly 6,000 cold meals were handed out to 1,000 homes on Tuesday, along with the 850 hot meals given Thanksgiving morning.
