EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville city council members Missy Mosby and Jonathan Weaver are proposing an ordinance which would help homeowners pay for water line repairs over time instead of all at once.
Many were concerned after receiving letters from the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility which said they must fix any leaks before new water meters can be installed.
Repair estimates ranged from $1,500 to $6,000.
Mosby and Weaver want to create a financing policy which is similar to the one that city council established to repair sidewalks.
The charges would be added over 10 - 20 years to a homeowner's property tax bill.
The repairs would be competed by the water utility.
