POSEY CO., IN (WFIE) - As the snow starts to fall, road crews from across the Tri-State are out pre-treating roads.
Trucks were out and about in Mt. Vernon on Saturday, spreading salt brine and beet juice on the roads.
Mt. Vernon Street Commissioner Max Dieterle says the beet juice helps to keep the roads clear even when the temperatures drop below zero.
Dieterle says this treatment will make it easier for the snow plows and drivers to get around, especially for the Monday morning commute.
"I hope they appreciate that we do try to make it safe for the citizens, especially when the kids get out of school. First thing Monday morning people trying to commute to work. Anything we can do to try to keep the streets a little bit safer we are going to try to do that," said Dieterle.
Local stores are also getting ready for the snow.
Managers at Rural King in Evansville say the store has stocked up on salt and sand to prepare for the winter season ahead.
They've also filled the shelves with lots of winter supplies from shovels to deicer sprays to window scrapers.
