EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - There are only 7 high school football teams left standing in mid-November; 3 in Indiana, 3 in Kentucky, and 1 in Illinois.
Here in the Hoosier state, it's the regional round, and in 4-A, Reitz travels to Columbus East. These 2 teams have staged a couple of classic battles in the playoffs, and the Olympians will once again be no pushover.
They're #1 in class 4A, led by former Reitz head coach, Bob Gaddis, and they haven't played a close game all year, evidenced by the fact they've scored over 60 points in 7 games this yea!
In 3A, Heritage Hills will be trying for its first regional crown since 2007, when they travel to Charlestown.
The Patriots & Pirates have met 3 teams in the playoffs, with Heritage Hills winning all 3 times.
In 2A, 12-0 Mater Dei will host Triton Central, right here at the Reitz Bowl.
The Wildcats are becoming more and more dangerous as sophomore quarterback Kurtis Wilderman gains more confidence under center, but they will have to overcome the loss of linebacker, Logan McCann.
In Kentucky's 2nd round of the playoffs, 1-loss Owensboro Catholic hosts a Murray team in 2A, that has absolutely given them fits in the playoffs over the years.
In 4A, Owensboro hosts a dangerous Warren East team, while Madisonville travels to Franklin Simpson.
Also, on Saturday, Mt. Carmel hosts Robinson in the quarterfinals of the Illinois playoffs.
