Mt. Carmel, IL teacher arrested for inappropriate behavior with a student

MT. CARMEL, IL (WFIE) -

The superintendent of Wabash Community Unit School District #348 confirms to 14News that a Mt. Carmel High School special education teacher has been arrested and charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

A statement released by the district says that Kirby Cheesman was being investigated by Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for inappropriate behavior with a 16-year-old student.

The statement goes on to say that DCFS began investigating about a month ago based upon a tip.

Superintendent Buss says Cheesman was immediately put on administrative leave and further disciplinary actions are pending.

Buss says the student in question was not a student of Cheesman's.
