CHICAGO (AP) - An Illinois state prison inmate has been charged with the 2002 slaying of a woman who was stabbed to death in a suburban Chicago storage facility where she worked.
Steven Podkulski was arrested on Wednesday - the day he was scheduled to be paroled from the Stateville Correctional Center.
On Thursday, the 40-year-old Podkulski was formally charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Jennifer Boyd, and a judge ordered him held in lieu of $3 million bail.
Bedford Park Police say the slaying was investigated for more than a year before leads dried up.
Then, in 2012, the department reopened the investigation and after interviewing witnesses again and finding other witnesses, detectives were able to develop enough evidence to charge Podkulski.
